The
first Splicer 1000s came into service just after the war began. It was originally classified as a superiority
fighter, but because of technological advances the ships still in use are
classified as light fighters. They are
used primarily for light escort, reconnaissance, and training. The reconnaissance variant varies from the
standard model in that it is unarmed and carries more sophisticated sensor
systems in place of the weapons. There
are two model trainers; the original model trainers were two seaters allowing
for an instructor to ride along with the trainee. Later models are single seat with a Remote
Control Override System (RCOS) which allows an instructor to take over the
craft from a remote position.
“Every
pilot starts out in a Splicer 1000, the little craft are so plentiful and
forgiving that as they were pulled from frontline service there was no better
place for them. Even though most pilots
eventually progress beyond the 1000 they all still hold a place in their hearts
for the craft,” Admiral Jolian Sares.
